Yep, I believe Dante wanted to make it the 10 level of Hell but just thought it was too inhumane!
So sorry for all of you. One of my nephews was colicky and practically drove my sister crazy. It didn't help that she had a husband who worked 12 hours a day and just wanted dinner, tv and to sleep when he came home. One of the things she use to do was move a chair into the shower and take a long warm shower with him. He usually stopped crying within a few minutes, but would start again if she turned off the water too soon. She drained more than one water tank on bad days. They looked like Mama and Baby Prune.
N1 was colicky from the start. I thought poor SIL was going to lose it - the first break she had from being with him 24/7 was when Dan and I babysat when N1 was around 7-8 weeks old. Ended up being reflux, and meds helped, at least.
I hope you all find some comfort soon. *gentle hugs all around*
S. definitely has reflux and the Zantac helps some, but there is also some unexplainable upset with him. Yesterday he had a great and mellow day, then at midnight it started--he didn't sleep again until 6:30am and he has only slept a few hours today. Right now ptor has him in the Bjorn and he is quiet. I had a shower and am going to nap. There is a bottle of breastmilk for ptor to feed him in an hour or two and I hope I can rest enough that I can deal with S. all night again if need be.
Urgh.
It is really hard when he screams so much and sleeps so little.
One of the colic-baby-from-hell anecdotes I don't think I've mentioned was with La Daughter, at 2 and a bit months. A friend was visiting from Massachusetts, with 2.5 year old twins. They went happily off to Le Son's daycare for a day (he went once a week), and friend and I set off for a small jaunt down to Mahone Bay and Lunenburg -- she wanted to Get Me Out Of The House.
La Daughter actually slept in the car the 45 minutes or so to Mahone Bay. Emboldened, I suggested stopping for lunch.
Whoops. Car stopped, screaming started.
So there I was, sitting on the passenger seat facing out the door, my head in my hands, sobbing, while my friend pushed this screaming maniac up and down the sidewalk beside the van, yelling in her best Northside Boston accent,
"BAHYBEEE FOR SALE! BAYYYYYYBEEE FOR SALE! GOIN' CHEAP! BAYYBEEE FOR SALE"
The scary part is that if anyone had made an offer, I might actually have thought about it. Maybe for only 5 seconds, but I might actually have considered it ...
I was colicky baby. Instead of keeping me in my crib, I slept on my Dad's stomach. He used to show me where I came to from up under his chin. Apparently it was the only way anybody slept at all. I'd cry. He'd pat my butt until I passed gas. Then I'd fall asleep.
When I'm out in public and there's a baby screaming, I almost immediately want to kill somebody; not usually the baby. It takes a second or so to tune it out. I think it's designed to get on your last good nerve.
I read this about craniosacral therapy tonight and thought of you and S. You might want to check into it for S. It's done wonders for my health and well-being.
Hope things are settling down and you're feeling better.
