baby stuff
Feb. 1st, 2010 05:34 pmStill need to make a baby journal.
Until then...
L. is doing great. He was 12lbs 4oz at his four week check-up and at six weeks he was about 13.5 lbs (weighed him at Baby and Me group). Yes, he is huge, and is following the same exact growth pattern as S. which is fascinating. He nurses really well and has just started taking a bottles of my milk occasionally and does that just fine. He nurses about 7-8 times a day and goes 6-8 hours overnight without eating (not a problem since he is gaining weight so well).
L. is a super-mellow baby which is a blessing from the universe for us. He only cries a little bit each day which is great but so strange compared to poor S. who spent hours crying each day no matter what we did. L sleeps for a 4-6.5 hour stretch at night which is huge for a baby his age. Even better is that he sleeps this in his co-sleeper lying down, swaddled up--not in the swing, not sitting on me, not in the car sear, but next to me in his own little bed. He even wakes and settles himself back down which was unheard of in our previous baby experience. We hope it keeps up. We wear him a lot during the day and I know that helps, but we wore S. a lot too and he had a terrible time sleeping. L. has some minor reflux, but nothing bad like S. had which is great. Poor S. had such a hard time. The only sleep issue we really have is that L. is a really, really loud breather and makes a lot of noise at night so it can be hard for me to sleep through. The upside is that I can hear him breathe so I am not constantly touching his chest to check for breathing. The noise is fine according to his pediatrician and our midwife so that is good.
That said, we are still tired. Six hour of sleep for L. means maybe four for me. There is still so much to get done that needs to get done without a baby awake or on me. But we are at least getting enough sleep throughout each 24 hours period to keep from going nuts.
In other baby-goodness, L. has been giving us social smiles which is great. S. in particular loves them. L. also pushes up on his hands when on his belly really well and the other day he did a HUGE push-up and arched his back up to look at S. L. seems to be strong like his brother. :-) L.'s head control is getting better and better and he tracks pretty well with his eyes already. He will spend extended periods of time staring at us which is quite sweet.
And now, a few pictures. ( Click here for cuteness )
