Photo of the Day 08/16/14: Abandoned. Last Friday, on day two of our adventure in the Mineral King area of Sequoia National Park, we climbed up to Black Wolf Falls which was positively stunning. An added treat was getting to peek into an abandoned copper mine next to the falls. Not safe to go inside, but I took a six second exposure shot of it and got some nice detail.

Date: 2014-08-22 04:26 pm (UTC)This reminds me of Natural Bridges on the Stanislaus river, off Parrots Ferry road. It's been about 35 years since I've been there, but the web tells me it hasn't changed much. The upper bridge is easy to swim/wade the length of the tunnel, and no flashlights are needed. The lower bridge is not as interesting. But it is a steep hike from the road. Moaning Cavern and Mercer's Cavern are nearby commercial sites.
On the way there, Knight's Ferry has a great swimming hole upstream from the covered bridge. It would be a great place to escape to when your parents get to be too much. :)
