Photo of the day for 09/08/13: While we were out at Coyote Hills on Sunday S, spotted a spider in the dry grass on the hillside. We had stopped and he saw it but I couldn't see it as the wind was blowing the grass its web was on and the spider was moving around fast. My camera could not get an auto focus lock on it as it everything was moving too much so I had to switch to manual which is not my strong suit. I did not have my macro lens with me, but I still got a decent shot.

Nice shot. :)

A few days ago I veered to avoid running over a tarantula.

Thanks! I would veer to avoid a tarantula as well, and then I would have a panic attack about seeing a tarantula. :)

Ooh, I love it! (Wow, just looked at again and saw how you could see the hair on the legs. Awesome!) This is the time of the year when the big spiders come out, and I enjoy seeing them so much! Who would not want to see a spider?

I have not ever been able to take a good picture of a spider using AF. AF looks for straight lines, and they're all around the spider in the web, so AF just focuses on the web. Consequently, I cannot take a good spider picture with my pocket camera at all. This is frustrating because, sometimes I just come out of the house on the way to work in the morning, and I see an awesome spider in the yard, and I want to take a picture of it, but I don't have time to run into the house for the DSLR. The pocket camera generally allows me to take an OK picture of something, even if it wouldn't be as good as the picture the DSLR would take, but certain subjects (spiders, the full moon) are just not photographable with that thing.

Thanks! Yeah, AF wasn't working AT ALL for this one.

I get freaked out by spiders at times, though I enjoy photographing the interesting ones. :)

Spiders eat bugs! What's not to love? Yours looks like a somewhat different species than the ones we have in the yard. Ours are more yellow. Yours is prettier.
