They are re-constructing a number of cubes near my work area today. Nothing like really loud hammering and drilling to add to my headache and general crankiness with the world.

I asked the stupid quesion of what they don't do such noisy construction projects in the off hours. The reply was that it "costs too much" to do so, so instead we get to work in a loud and disruptive atmosphere all day.

Yippee.

I just one big ray of fucking sunshine today, aren't I? ;--P

That sucks!

A couple of months ago they had the carpets cleaned with evil chemicals and my head hurt for days and my breathing was restricted as a result.

Grrr.

Too bad workers' lost productivity doesn't show up in a stark number on a balance sheet, as construction expenditures do.

Yup. That is something that really aggravates me. It's similar to the argument that it costs too much to buy needed office equipment in advance, even though not having the equipment will surely mean a loss in productivity and money. Not to mention what things like this do to the morale of the employees, which is an issue in retaining good employees.

::sigh::

It's been quite a frustrating week in work-land.

I once had a cube where they (powers that be) decided to put up a wall right across the cube alley. I could deal fine with the plastic sheeting and the little noises, but there was a day where I was trying to work on the computer and somebody was putting in structural members.

"Tap-tap. tap tap-tap. "

"*BANG!!!*"

The worker were using a nail gun to attach a metal stud to the concrete. It sounded...well...like a gunshot. Scared the crap out of me!

I just left for the day without telling anyone...
