So after talking about wanting to do it for *months* I finally got a bike! I haven't had a bike since ~1994-ish. I primarily want one so I can ride with the kids/all four of us can go out riding. I tired some a few weekends ago but everything felt awful on my hands which due to some pretty bad impingement issues get numb really fast with any sort of pressure or gripping. Plus, I am short with a short torso which makes fit difficult. I got some advice and decided that a cruiser-type may be what I needed. We went to REI today and I tried one and it was WONDERFUL! No pain, minimal numbness. We bought it (and a bike rack for the car and a helmet made this century) and this evening we all went out to Coyote Hills and rode. S. can certainly keep up with me, and L. is close-ish to being able to on his Strider...Peter rode his unicycle and we ended up going further out than was comfortable for him on that, but we had a great time. And, the bike was totally comfy and rode well. YAY! So, I now have a bike. A big, bright orange bike that with its white seat and handlebars looks like a creamsicle, but I finally have a bike.
