Photo of the day for 2/9/13
Feb. 9th, 2013 08:00 pmPhoto of the day: Everglades. In March of 2009, shortly before I got pregnant with L., Peter, S., and I traveled to Florida to visit my sister, brother-in-law and newborn nephew. We had a great time with them, but we also took our own side trip to the Everglades. As S. was 2.5 at the time, a tram tour seemed about the right speed for us and it was. We saw more alligators than I ever could have imagined in one place, little blue egrets (new to me), turtles, and crows who had learned to steal food out of visitors' strollers. I shot this from the tram and like it because it depicts fairly well what the landscape looks like there during the dry season. It is a very different experience from visiting parks like Yosemite, Lassen, or Kenai Fjords. It is flat. And grassy. And flat. This was taken in my pre-DSLR days with my old Canon Powershot.
