Big Moves has lots of events, classes, and performances coming up in the next couple of months. I am listing the detailed info. behing the cut tag. FWIW to y'all, I am performing in SF at the events on May 6th (hip-hop dance with the Phat Fly Girls) and 7th (modern dance solo and ensemble hip-hop dance with the Phat Fly Girls) and I am teaching jazz at the Day of Dance on May 19th.

Big Moves joins the festivities for INTERNATIONAL NO-DIET DAY

Come on out to this flabulously diet-free zone for visual and performance art and to celebrate what proud, size-accepting people can be. The Phat Fly Girls will be performing a routine somewhere in there, but we encourage our fans to come for the whole lunch hour.

FOOTLOOSE PRESENTS @ VENUE 9 WOMEN'S WORK SERIES

Tuesday, May 7 * 8 p.m.; VENUE 9, 252 9TH St. (between Folsom & Howard) in SF; $8-10 sliding scale

Women's Work is an ongoing, bi-monthly series featuring live performances of dance, theater, music, spoken word, and multi-media. On May 7, Big Moves brings in a selection of fat-positive performance, including: salsa from Oakland-based Supa Thick; belly dance by members of Raks Al Tasneem; erotic readings by Marilyn Hollinger; Big Moves dancers (under the direction of Joe Landini) with "They'll Eat the Fat Ones First"; and a bit of hip-hop with The Phat Fly Girls. The second half of the evening is "Fallen Stories," a collage of images and stories about war by Vertigo Dance. Big Moves' third annual DAY OF DANCE

Sunday, May 19 * 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Berkeley, California; $65 (early-bird registration postmarked by April 30); $75 (registrations postmarked May 1-May 10); $85 at the door, depending on availability

This full day of dance for women of all sizes brings together a world of musical movement-- from West African to jazz, salsa to hip hop--taught by experienced, size-friendly teachers in a supportive, wheelchair-accessible setting. Sitting or standing, experienced or curious, flamboyant or shy... we can all make dance our own. There is space for 30 dancing participants at the studio. If you are coming from out of the area, please let us know if you need help arranging home stay or finding a hotel (no promises on this, but we'll see what we can do). Big Burlesque

Saturday, June 8 * 2 to 4 p.m.; Dance Mission * 3316 24th Street at Mission, San Francisco.; $20/drop-in, $15/advance (postmarked by May 25)

It's not what you take off, but what you leave on, and what you do with it, that counts. Miss Demeanor (Michigan dancer Heather McAllister) teaches you to break all the rules with this amazing burlesque workshop for women only. Participants may choose to participate that evening in Miss Demeanor's Fat-Bottom Revue (location TBA). Please note: this studio is up a flight of stairs, and on-street parking is limited (use BART!).
