People who wear noisy shoes (flip-flop type) and walk all around the office with them making as much noise as possible. Especially irritating is when the culprit of the noisy shoes is also responsible for a billion other random irritating noises in the office today.

Grrrrrr.

And, yes, I am sicker than I was yesterday and office noise is not helping.

noisy things...

At my old job, I had a set of hearing protectors in my cube. Like stereo headphones, but tuned to the nothing channel.

Whenever my neighbors would start arguing with each other about programming languages or system architecture, I'd put them on.

At the worst times, I'd put in little stereo earbuds under the protectors. Then I'd listen to /dev/urandom as a source of whitenoise to block everything out.

sounds like a good idea...Sometimes the noises around my cube get beyond irritating. The worst is irritating cell phones...bleah.

Hmmmm. Reminds me of a prank I never did: sort of a mechanical haunting...

When the layoffs were happening at my old company, I thought about leaving a collection of sound files on one of the lab servers, with a script to play them at odd times. Maybe use a microphone to listen for activity in the lab, and have the script play a recorded sentence or two. But I didn't have any recordings of my excoworkers, so I never did it.

Sounds like you need an audio recording of somebody clipping their fingernails, turned very loud and beamed to this person's desk. :-)
