new year's dinner

I made black-eyed pea gumbo tonight which delighted
ptor and mostly amused S. (He kept saying "GUMBO!!!"). We had it over brown rice and I added Tabasco to mine and found the whole thing rather tasty. I also made corn bread in my brand new cast iron skillet (yay!) from corn flour that we got at Ardenwood's harvest festival. That was also very good and interesting looking as the corn flour is blue, green and red--very cool. I have a dessert in the oven for a holiday treat (cinnamon coconut pastry thing).
Yay from a yummy new year's eve dinner.
On the downside we've already heard one gunshot nearby. Bleah.

Date: 2009-01-01 06:22 pm (UTC)My first reaction was to laugh at "already heard one gunshot" but then I remembered what it was like to live in California. Living here has really changed me. Gunshots and fireworks on new years eve are a tradition too.

Date: 2009-01-04 11:57 am (UTC)Oh the talking ship sailed some time ago :) He is full-on conversing these days. He learns new words constantly and will repeat just about anything and use it correctly in context. His vocabulary is immense--the day he busted out with "coaxial cable" I about died.
Happy New Year to you!
