Exhausted.
Fire Truck Day out at Ardenwood Farm today was every bit as exciting and overwhelming for S. as we thought it would be. He really, really enjoyed it. As a bonus to us all they also had old machines running (hey,
lightning_rose it was just like out at the Stanislaus County Fair, but these machines were a bit more elaborately restored). It was fun looking at them and S. really, really liked them, because they had WHEELS and resembled TRACTORS! Of course, the highlight of the day for S. was getting to "drive" the antique and modern firetrucks. The historic music box society was out at the farm today as well, with old calliopes outside (DAMN, those are loud) and smaller boxes inside the Patterson House. (The Patterson House is a house from the mid-1800's that has been meticulously preserved and restored). They had an open house at the house today which was great as my mom,
ptor and I all got to take turns going in and taking a quick peek around. It is gorgeous, but I was most intrigued by all the old kitchenwares. We had never been inside the house as typically you have to take a tour and it is not really kid-friendly and the tours are long so we haven't bothered when we've been out there as a family. Of course I can't go in when I am out at the farm by myself with S., which is nearly once a week.
Anyhow, we are all cooked from the sun and worn out. I am off to make dinner in a few (spaghetti with zucchini, basil and lemon with a side of green beans) then to pay bills and fold laundry. Exciting night I have planned, eh?

Date: 2008-05-19 04:20 am (UTC)I've been to other county fairs, but none with as awesome a collection of old engines as the Stanislaus County Fair in the 70's!
There was one in particular, 10" bore, 24" stroke, 4' flywheel, piston sliding smoothly in and out of the cylinder, every 4 strokes flames shooting out the exhaust, whoompa, whoompa, whoompa, POW! ...
Take a girl to watch that and you got lucky for sure that night. Worked *every* fucking time!
