A flabulous plus-size fashion show from San Francisco retailer Go Figure rounds out the evening. Long-time fat activist and co-author of "Great Shape: the First Fitness Guide for Large Women" emcees. As always, there will be the chance to win some cold hard cash in the split-the-pot raffle as well as the opportunity to learn some phat and fly moves of your own during our traditional end-of evening mini-dance lesson.
All proceeds from "A Taste for Dance" benefit the programs of Big Moves Bay Area a volunteer-run not-for-profit fiscally sponsored project of Intersection for the Arts, a 501(c)(3) organization.
Big Moves is the nation's only service organization dedicated to getting people of all sizes out on the dance floor and up on stage. Founded in San Francisco in 2000, Big Moves now has branches in the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, New York and Montreal. Since its inception in 2001, Big Moves Bay Area's resident dance company, The Phat Fly Girls-West Coast, has performed at venues big and small spanning the west coast all the way from Portland, OR to San Diego, CA. Named "The Best Place for Big Girls to Shake It" by the San Francisco Bay Guardian, Big Moves Bay Area was recently featured on "Entertainment Tonight", in a national PBS documentary and in a feature segment on NPR.
