S. has another ear infection. We took him in to the doctor today because the crankiness and fussiness we thought was teething seemed to be ramping up and seemed illness-like. It was. His left ear is mildly infected (red and inflamed but no puss) so he is back on antibiotics--at his age untreated infections can lead to hearing loss. The very stressful part of the appoinment was when the doctor had to excavate his ear and remove built-up earwax so she could get a view of his eardrum. You can imagine how much fun that was with a squirmy, cranky, in-pain six-month old. She got enough out to see the eardrum and I am thankful for her skill and patience--if she hadn't cleared the ear she would not have seen the infection. I feel so bad for S.--he cleary got my ears which is sucktastic. We are in for a long haul with this.

I had an appointment today as well to look at the painful cyst/tumor on my back. This doctor is not sure it is a lipoma (as had been previously diagnosed) and has scheduled an MRI to investigate. She said it doesn't look or feel like anything "dangerous" and I sure hope it is not. She also thankfully referred me to an orthopedist who can hopefully give me a cortisone injection in my wrist which should help the pain and immobility caused by the ganglion cyst there. And I got six vials of blood taken. Just a double-check on my iron levels and to take another look at everything to make sure the unintentional weight-loss is not a symptom of a larger medical problem.

Too much time at the doctor's today, but hopefully everything is OK with me and hopefully S. will be feeling better soon.

I'm glad we got S. and you in for a doctor visit today.

I'm also glad that he seems to be feeling a little better now, as he naps up against me.

I hope you and S get better soon.

One of the prime reasons babies and young kids get ear infections so easily is because their eustachion tubes are almost horizontal. As we grow, our eustachion tubes eventually get to about 45 degrees so our inner ears drain better.
