I will start this story by saying that no one got hurt.

That said...

My grandfather got hit by a train today. No shit. He didn't see or hear the oncoming train and guardrails and drove his car through the guardrails and the train hit the back of his car, totaling the car but sparing him. Parts of his car hit another car and, fortunately, the driver of that vehicle is also OK. The police cannot believe my grandfather survived this. The police are also working on revoking his license. My grandfather should not have been driving for years due to his poor eyesight and hearing but has managed, somehow, to keep his license. However, apparently you do not get to go one on one with a train and keep driving.

Like I said, it's been a day.

Wow.

I'm glad he's okay. That's horrifying.

Holy crap. I'm glad he's okay and that nobody else got hurt, but DAMN. That is lucky. And I hope they manage to revoke his driving privileges. It's past time he gave up the keys. Maybe he can find some other way to assert his independence. :/

*jaw dropping*

Wow.

I'm glad all he and the other driver are fine. I hope the train driver is mentally calmer as well.

That is just amazing.

Dear God. I am so glad nobody was hurt.

My family took away my grandfather's car when he told us how he dealt with problems in the Washington, DC, area traffic:

He just closed his eyes to drive.

My grandmother quit driving after she ran her car off into a ditch and didn't remember how she got there.

Mano on Mano with a train! That is amazing. I'm so glad he (and everyone involved) is okay. I can't even imagine the look on your parent's face when they got this call.

My Dad had a head-on with a van when he was 80. It was his fault, but the van didn't have insurance, so in Missouri it was as if the van never existed. The van driver was hurt. My dad was hurt by his seat belt and where his cane was resting. He drove once after that, but it convinced him he couldn't do it anymore. He lived until 90, but he did not enjoy life without driving.
