Photo of the day for 08/01/13: Pedal Tractor Pull. One of S.'s favorite things at the county fair is the pedal tractor pull. The kids pedal these tractors which activates a pulley system which pulls a set amount of weight (based on the kids' age) up the incline. It is easy at first and of course gets harder towards the end. It is a basic simple machines lesson. He used to like to watch them and now he loves to do the pull. Every kids gets a ribbon and the emphasis is on having fun, but kids who complete the initial pull get to go into the next round and so on. S. does really well and is one of the few kids who advances to the next rounds. He is proud of that and he did the pull this past year in scorching heat. :)

Photo of the day for 08/03/13: Happy Dog. When S. and I were poking around Asilomar State Beach on New Year's Eve, right around sunset, a man was walking his dogs near us and then let them off the leash and the played in the water and chased the pelicans. This is one of those very happy dogs.
