Photo of the day: This past summer we spent three days at Lassen Volcanic National Park. It is all gorgeous, but few things are as intriguing, and dangerous, as the hydrothermal features, in particular, Bumpass Hell. We all hiked up and then down to witness it's other-wordliness and it was truly amazing. This photo is of a creek of sorts, of sulfurous water, rocks, and brittle earth. I was standing on the boardwalk, built to protect folks from breaking through the ground and horribly scalding themselves.
