We went to the Friends of the Library book sale this evening and had lots of fun rummaging through all the books while picking up quite a few books for ourselves. Including the $10 annual Friends of the Library family membership fee we spent $30. For that $30 dollars we got our membership (allowing us to go to the sale tonight rather than later this weekend), ~18 books for S., nine novels for me, a vintage view finder for [livejournal.com profile] ptor and three "collectible" cookbooks. I love funky old cookbooks and I am quite pleased with what I found tonight. I got a small book of recipes from 1926 called "Aunt Sammy's Radio Recipes" that was put together by the Bureau of Home Economics. I also got the Better Home and Garden's "Cooking with Cheese" from 1966--I could not pass that up. Then, for the win, I got a Life''s "Picture Cook Book" from 1958, complete with a section titled: "Man's Job: Steak" that includes a picture of A. Quincy Jones grilling steak on a charcoal grill in his living room. Oh, and there is even a recipe for scrapple as well sections titled: "French Lesson in Innards", "Flaming Food", and "Luxury with Leftovers". The photographs are, of course, mostly incredibly unappetizing and often in questionable taste (the egg dishes for the egg section are shot through the center of a candy egg.) Oh yeah. This one I had to have.

After the book sale we went out to falafel for dinner. Yum! S. had a personal best tonight by eating all six of his falafel patties. He was a hungry guy.

Ok, work to do, then bed and rehearsal in the morning.
