USPS hate

Tomorrow I will be making a trip to the post office to complain.

Today, I complain here.

A couple months ago [personal profile] ptor and I got a locking mailbox.  Nothing too sturdy, just enough to to probably deter someone trying to quickly swipe mail.  It is the kind where the mail carrier should just drop the mail in a slot on top of the box.  Several times now, the mail carrier has ripped open the top of the box rather than putting the mail through the slot.  Now, there is nothing that we get that won't fix in the slot, save for packages which won't fit in the box anyhow.  The slot fits all envelopes.  The carrier could fold the junk mail or leave it sticking part out of the slot (there is nothing they could even possibly consider private about ads from Walgreens).  But no--carrier in question chooses instead to just rip open the box.  If the carrier has a problem with the box he/she could have rang the doorbell (I'm home most days) or left a note.  Hell, yesterday I was sitting on the couch reading five feet from the open front door when I heard the carrier rip open the box again (it is on our front porch).  Now, the front door was open (screen shut).  This should have indicated I was home (if the car in the drive didn't).  If there was an issue, what the fuck would have been so difficult about ringing the bell and telling me?  I fixed the lock and re-locked the box today.  Again, I found it torn open today.  For what?  Apparently so the carrier wouldn't have to deal with folding the junk mail to stick in through the slot.

What really pisses me off is the crazy passive-aggresiveness of it.  Don't like your customer's mailbox?  Just destroy it!  For no reason.  Hell, it takes the carrier longer to rip the top open than it would to just feed the mail through the slot.

Like I said, tomorrow I complain.  Not the world's biggest problem, but damn I am pissed.
