Jan. 26th, 2003 03:55 amWe've got some cool opportunities for dancers and non-dancers in the near future. Take a look :) You can also contact me with any questions, or if you are interested.
FAT MODELS SOUGHT FOR FASHION SHOW
Go Figure, one of San Francisco's hippest plus-size shops, seeks three women (sizes 16-22) to help model some flowy romantic clothes at "A Taste for Dance" Big Moves' second annual chocolate tasting benefit. Models must be available for fitting on Monday evening, February 10, from 6 to 9 p.m. in San Francisco. The event itself is on Sunday, February 16, at the Ashkenaz Community Dance and Music Center (1317 San Pablo Avenue, Berkeley). To get into the model pool, email fullsun@sonic.net with your name, contact numbers, and dress size. You will be put on a call sheet, and contacted with further information.
MOVING SCULPTURE MODEL NEEDED
The Original Fat-Bottom Revue, the nation's only fat burlesque show, has an opening for a fat performer in its moving sculpture piece. This number runs on stage for a half-hour before each show. How it works is thus: you and one other model hold poses for 30 seconds to one minute at a time, then change positions. You should be over size 16, and comfortable standing, sitting, or lying around in some state of undress under a spotlight in front of lots of people (how far you go with the
undress is up to you, however nipples and crotches must be covered at all times). You should be available for at least one rehearsal with our veteran sculpture, plus the actual shows (March 1 and April 5, both Saturday nights) and the tech rehearsals (February 27 and April 3, both Thursday nights). Models can stay and watch the shows for free! For more details, email fullsun@sonic.net. Big Moves is a proud co-producer of the Original Fat-Bottom Revue.
CALL FOR DANCERS
Big Moves, the nation's only service organization dedicated to increasing size diversity in dance, invites dancers over age 16 to join its modern ensemble for the 2003-2004 season. Qualified applicants should have performing experience in movement, dance, or theater; dancers with studio training are encouraged to apply. Recommended: participation in four-month modern dance workshop series (one 3-hour workshop per month) beginning in January 2003, as well as ongoing outside training in one or more dance genres. You must be willing to work with local choreographers in developing works and performing them at various showcases throughout the year in the San Francisco Bay Area, including but not limited to Big Moves' Bodies in Motion concert, taking place in October 2003 at ODC Theater in San Francisco. Rehearsal schedule TBD after April 2003. Big Moves' modern ensemble is open to men and women of all sizes. We are working toward a world in which dancers are evaluated by their talent, not by their weight. For more information, contact Marina Wolf at 415/756-5593, or send email to fullsun@sonic.net.

Date: 2003-01-26 12:34 pm (UTC)We don't have anything on the East Coast yet, and we are the only ones really doing stuff like this. However, we are working towards going national and plan to be doing stuff on East Coast (namely NY) in a few years.
