One thing I enjoy about winter is making lots of soups and stews. During the summer I rarely want to have the stove on for over and hour, nor do I typically crave hot stew. In the winter, however, stew tastes so good and making it smells so good. A couple of nights ago I made one of
catzen's and my favorite stews. It's a bean, rice and vegetable stew and it is so, so good. It is simple-- just carrots, celery, garlic, onions, tomatoes, kidney beans, brown rice, some basil and thyme, and lots of black pepper--but really, really good. It is especially good with paremesan cheese on top. I am going to make potato leek soup either tonight or tomorrow. Another tasty winter treat.
