Where were you when....

1. When John F. Kennedy was shot (11/22/1963)
I was no where near existence yet. My mom was 11 and my dad was 14.

2. When Mt. St. Helens blew (5/18/1980)
I was five years old and not yet in school. My family was moving from Tracy, CA to Turlock, CA that month. I remember hearing about Mt. St. Helens from my first grade teacher later that year.

3. When the space shuttle Challenger exploded (1/28/1986)
Sitting in my 6th grade classroom at the Catholic school I attended. The principal walked in and gave us the news. All the students and teachers went to the church for a service not long after we herad.

4. When the 7.1 earthquake hit San Francisco (10/7/1989)
I was a sophmore in high school in the central valley of CA and had just completed a tennis match. I was standing at the light boards in the journalism room at my high school, working on lay-out of the school newspaper. I thought I was having a dizzy-spell until my teacher said, "Jessica, we're having an earthquake".

5. When the Gulf War began (1/16/1991)
I was a junior in high school. It was finals week and I was also in the middle of driver's training.

6. When OJ Simpson was chased in his White Bronco (6/17/1994)
I had just completed my sophmore year of college (still in the central valley) and was working at Foster Farms. My boss at the Farm watched that damn trial everyday.

7. When the building in Oklahoma City was bombed (4/19/1995)
I was a junior in college, working at Foster Farms. I didn't hear about the bombing until the afternoon when my aerobics teacher mentioned it.

8. When Princess Di was killed (8/31/1997)
I was a second year grad student at SJSU and was working at the county office of education. I remember discussing the media coverage in my women's studies class.

9. When Bush was first announced President (11/7/2000)
I was vigiliantly watching the news in the downtown San Jose apartment I shared with catzen.

10. When the 6.8 earthquake hit Nisqually, WA (2/28/2001)
I don't remember this. Although, I would have been back in grad school (after a 3 year break) and newly moved into a condo in south San Jose with catzen.

11. When terrorists knocked over the World Trade Center (9/11/2001)
catzen and I were asleep in south San Jose. My mom called to tell us.
