Is there a way you and Marina can change locations of where you dance? I am sure there are tons of dance studio's in better neighborhoods.

The problem with SF is that affordable and available dance studio space is pretty much all in dirty, crime-ridden neighborhoods. Sad but true. I am going to talk to her about it, and see if maybe she can switch the class to a less crime-and-gang-and-violence-ridden neighborhood.

Until then, I will park in the secured garage on 16th, and BART to the station across the street from the studio. Or, drive to Daly City or Colma and BART the rest of the way in. This will save me from walking from Folsom to Mission and back, especially since it is going to start getting darker earlier soon. I am thinking that minimizing the time I spend walking around will minimize my risk

*hug*

You might also focus on the Mission because you're familiar with it, when problems happen elsewhere . . . but I imagine more problems happen in more affordable places. :/

Thanks for the hugs.

I tend to be very aware about when and where violent crimes take place. The Mission District has had a dispropotionately high # of murders, other violent crimes, and gang-relatd crimes in the past year. It is a hot bed of serious drug dealing (meth, coke, heroin), which tends to correlate with higher levels of violent crime. I have seen people go into the public restrooms to shoot-up. I have seen many physical fights as well. It is scary. I can try to look the other way all I want, but when I am am aware of three murders (not to mention all the crap I am sure I am unaware of) happening in the past 6 months within a few blocks of Dance Mission I have to question the general safety of that neighborhood. Gangs are a reality I don't like be around. We moved out of downtown San Jose we I would no longer be living next door to a family of very violent gang members.

The sad reality is that there are neighborhoods where violent crime happens a lot more than in other neighborhoods. This is especially true in gang territory and where hard drugs are sold on the street. The mission is clearly gang territory and it is also a place where drugs are sold on the street.
