A new employee portal was introduced on the corporate intranet today. All good and fine. However, as I opened Netscape this morning I got the following message:
You are using Netscape Navigator 4 on Windows. The COMPANY NAME Employee Portal is currently supported using the corporate standard browser, Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 5.0 or greater).

Please close Netscape Navigator 4 and access the COMPANY NAME Employee Portal using the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser (version 5.0 or greater).

Really, really unamused.

Being forced to use Microsquish products, especially IE, really pisses me off.

Grr.

Blech.

The place I used to work (now in the dotcom byte bin) didn't test their product on anything but IE because "people never use Netscape at work, anyhow." (It was designed to be primarily a worksite employee portal type of thing.) I said, "I use Netscape at work!" They responded, "Well then you shouldn't." That was that.

Quick suggestion: If you are allowed to use self-loaded software on company boxes, try a modern copy of Mozilla. I'm pretty sure you might be able to fudge what "User Agent" is reported to the web server, so you can get Mozilla to pretend to be IE5 on W2K. Or Opera on C64. Or lynx on TI-85...

Konquerer definitely has this ability...

Ahh...interesting suggestion.

Yeah, we can use self-loaded software.

I've used Konquerer and Mozilla at home...I certainly think I will try this.
