neighborhood crap

There was a drive-by shooting within two miles of our house last night. The two people injured (thankfully not killed) were not even the intended targets.

The gang graffiti just keeps multiplying.

We found empty beer bottles in our side yard last week. Someone has been parking and drinking on the side of our house, tossing their empties and driving off. Nice.

Tonight two guys in a car parked on the side of the house (the side of our house faces a court, off the main street). They had their windows rolled all the way up and then they had some noisy interactions with a guy across the street who lives in one of the more suspicious houses on our block (as in looks like dealing is going on, many guys hanging out looking vaguely gang-involved, talk of jail etc.) The guys in the car drove off eventually and parked at the suspicious house (guess they wanted to get high on the side street first) and later ptor went out and found yet another tiny ziplock bag. Too small for weed (unless you were storing one joints' worth and I doubt that) and it didn't smell. These are crystal or powder bags. My money is on meth. Urgh.

I am looking forward to moving out of this neighborhood within the next couple of years. Did I mention the elementary school down the street regularly has beer bottles and cans strewn in its yard and it is adjacent to a sketchy park where there is known drug and gang activity? Nice.

minor accomplishments

I acquired both Day Out With Thomas and Maker Faire tickets this week. The Thomas event is not happening until August and we will not be telling S. about it until we are actually there, looking at Thomas. We have not been to Maker Faire before but we are confident that S. will have a grand time.

So, who else is going to Maker Faire this weekend?
