end of year
Dec. 31st, 2007 11:20 pmI was going to do one of those end of year memes but none of them seemed quite right. I also don't have the energy to answer a bunch of questions that don't mean all that much to me. So, here are some of the highlights and lowlights of my year, along with some of the purely mundane:
January:
Favorite books read this year: "In the Time of the Butterflies" by Julia Alvarez; The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood; "Yo" by Julia Alvarez; "Maybe the Moon" by Armisted Maupin.
Most useful baby item purchased: The aforementioned Ergo Carrier and this Fisher Price booster seat. That seat has made it so easy for us to take S. other places to eat. It is quite possibly the best $25 we have spent.
Favorite new recipes:: Peruvian Quinoa Stew, Peppery Potato and Fennel Soup, Stewed Garbanzos with Zucchini Quinoa, Navy Bean and Celery Root Soup, and Couscous with Garbanzos and Vegetable Sauce.
Favorite new song: Eddie Vedder's cover of "Hard Sun". I love it to pieces despite its heavy rotation on KFOG. Of course, Eddie Vedder can cover just about anything I will love it. There have been a few exceptions, but I am truly in love with a lot of what he has done, including this song.
Least favorite new song of the year: Anything from the new Eagles album. ::shudder:: I fucking hate the Eagles, man! (name the movie I am quoting and you'll get a cookie, or something).
Most enjoyed TV shows: The Sopranos, Big Love, Weeds, South Park, and Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-list.
What sucked up most our money: Taxes, rent, groceries and medical bills.
Our most precious resources: Time and sleep. (so why am I up so late writing an entry? Ah well...)
Some of my biggest accomplishments this year: Performing and producing as much as I did even with a new child. Breastfeeding almost full-time (~6-8 times a day) still at sixteen months. Maintaining some semblance of order in the house. Cooking all of S.'s food and our food (these are quickly becoming one and the same, but there are still extra things I have to prep for him because he cannot eat all our food). Managing to still have sex despite all the craziness a small child brings.
Biggest failures of the year: Finances not kept as controlled as we would have liked. Not enough sleep and too much distracted diffusion late at night. Behind on a lot of administrative Big Moves thing. Not keeping up with friendships--I have gotten so overwhelmed at times I just can't deal with email or posting much of substance.
Biggest goal for new year: More social outings. More interaction with adults. Re-establishing friendships. Getting our finances in better order.
Happy New Year everyone!
January:
- I started dancing again four months post-partum. I'd stopped dancing about one month prior to S.'s birth, so I had about five months off.
- I performed with the Fly Girls at El Rio at Heavy Rotation
- S. and I were still attending Baby and Me twice a week.
- The acquisition of our Ergo Carrier saved our backs. I spent many hours with S. asleep or resting in it while I walked and/or shopped.
- S. and I started Music Together classes.
- Heather died. I don't have many more words about that right now except to say that I still cannot find it in me to remove her email address from the Big Moves mailing list.
- My parent's cat, Betsy, died at the age of eighteen. We got her when I was a freshman in high school
- I taught a dance class to sixty high school kids. Yikes.
- S. turned six months old and started crawling.
