still sick

Stayed home sick today and went to the doc. She said there is fluid behind my ears, but my ears are not yet infected. That's good, though the fluid build-up is bad. I'm to stay on the decongestants, re-start my nose 'roids, and "get as much rest as possible". If I don't get better in a few days I'm to go back.

Currently, I still feel like crap.

Blargh.

are you on prescription decongestants? you might want to try a combo decongestant/expectorant, something containing guaifenesin. guai is *great* for thinning mucus. you'll have more drainage, but that's what you want. the drainage might irritate your throat a bit, but it's better than getting a nasty infection. oh, you have to drink a lot of water/tea with guai, and don't take aspirin (tylenol is fine)... you can ask your doctor. drink more fluids, though. there's really no point in taking decongestants without taking in LOTS of clear fluids. if the mucus isn't thinned, it won't drain. and stay away from dairy until you feel better. ;)

Non-'script currently. I take the pseudoephedrine and guaif combo. IF I don't do the guaif my sinuses never drain. I'm trying to drink lots of clear fluids, but I think I need to up the intake even more. Thanks for the reminder :)

i hope you feel better soon. being sick sucks. i'm trying to fight a sinus infection, too. and it's been a trial getting it out of my ears (already did one round of antibiotics). i have prescription guai, but i avoid taking it in the winter b/c it's so dry here. i end up shrivelling up in my sleep. ;)

Gods, I know about the dryness. I am shriveling like a prune, especially with the heat running a lot here.

I really hope your infection gets better soon. Multiple rounds of antibiotics suck. Ear stuff sucks big timme. i had chronic ear infections from the time I was 6 months to 16 years old--I get _really_ worried whenever I think _any_ infection is nearing my ears.
