I have gotten used to having one the clerks at the 7-11 down the street from our house calling me "sweetheart". No biggie, really. Kinda weird, but I let it roll off my back. Today, there was a clerk there I had never seen before (more or less my age). When I walked in, he and another guy (a customer) followed me with their eyes. Whatever. Then I got to the counter and placed my purchase (the water which later spilled on me) on the counter:

"How are you sweetie?"

uh, fine

"That'll be $1.24, love".

hands clerk a $1.25

"Here you go, pumpkin" ::hands me my penny change and winks at me.::

leave store bemused

Three sentences, three forms of address I typically only expect to hear from family or partners (or maybe the rare dance teacher).

Interesting.
