USPS hate

Tomorrow I will be making a trip to the post office to complain.

Today, I complain here.

A couple months ago [personal profile] ptor and I got a locking mailbox.  Nothing too sturdy, just enough to to probably deter someone trying to quickly swipe mail.  It is the kind where the mail carrier should just drop the mail in a slot on top of the box.  Several times now, the mail carrier has ripped open the top of the box rather than putting the mail through the slot.  Now, there is nothing that we get that won't fix in the slot, save for packages which won't fit in the box anyhow.  The slot fits all envelopes.  The carrier could fold the junk mail or leave it sticking part out of the slot (there is nothing they could even possibly consider private about ads from Walgreens).  But no--carrier in question chooses instead to just rip open the box.  If the carrier has a problem with the box he/she could have rang the doorbell (I'm home most days) or left a note.  Hell, yesterday I was sitting on the couch reading five feet from the open front door when I heard the carrier rip open the box again (it is on our front porch).  Now, the front door was open (screen shut).  This should have indicated I was home (if the car in the drive didn't).  If there was an issue, what the fuck would have been so difficult about ringing the bell and telling me?  I fixed the lock and re-locked the box today.  Again, I found it torn open today.  For what?  Apparently so the carrier wouldn't have to deal with folding the junk mail to stick in through the slot.

What really pisses me off is the crazy passive-aggresiveness of it.  Don't like your customer's mailbox?  Just destroy it!  For no reason.  Hell, it takes the carrier longer to rip the top open than it would to just feed the mail through the slot.

Like I said, tomorrow I complain.  Not the world's biggest problem, but damn I am pissed.

Sounds like a jerk.
On the other hand, having had a mail carrier in my in-law family, I know they are on a very tight schedule and pressure to complete it each and every day. And the amount of junk mail, esp. around election times is incredible.
But he still sounds like a jerk.

Sic em!

Yeah, I understand the time pressure thing. However, really, rather than ripping the top open everyday, maybe just trying to ring the bell when I am obviously home and explaining the issue to me would have been nice.

Grr.

And I really hate going to the post office. But I will as this makes me suspect. We also all too often get neighbors mail, which makes me think we are not getting all of ours.

We get neighbor's mail a couple of times a month, usually it's junk mail. And I know they get ours - I found a new piece of mail in our box on Memorial Day.

Wouldn't it be funny if the carrier just thought it was a very tight fitting mailbox lid, so he strong armed it open everyday Of course, he would have to ignore the key hole, huh?

If you have a webcam maybe you can catch him in the act. Then you can email the video to not only the appropriate authorities but to the local media as well. Speaking only of my own experience, I've discovered that when dealing with a government agency the service you receive is directly proportional to trouble you can cause them.
