[livejournal.com profile] ptor and I had a picnic and took a walk around Lake Elizabeth today. Of course, I took my camera and much shooting ensued. The highlight of our walk was watching a young snowy egret fish--we even saw it catch and eat a small fish. I love egrets and getting to watch one up close was a treat. I am quite happy with some of the egret shots, but a certain mallard stole the show today flying into my shot, giving me my one of my favorite photos of the day.

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] ptor and I went for a walk at dusk at Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. As always, we enjoyed seeing the birds (ducks, gulls, egrets, and others) and the plant life. However, our biggest find of the day was a large spider in a web which I had never seen before. We have identified it as a argiope trifasciata, common name, banded argiope. I got a couple of decent pictures--I had no tripod on me and it was nearly dark by the time we saw the spider so the pictures have a flash and aren't great, but kind of cool all the same.
