Photo of the Day for 02/08/16: Reflections and Patterns

One thing I really love, and love to shoot, is the reflection of trees in water. I also really love capturing the patterns and texture of water at a variety of shutter speeds and enjoy the interplay of light, water movement, and colors and shapes beneath the water's surface. At the end of our hike at Sunol Regional Wilderness yesterday we crossed the Alameda Creek on the footbridge near the visitor center. Light was low but there were some fantastic reflections of trees on the water. I stopped to shoot them and was very delighted to also capture some very interesting patterns in the water, something I was not actually seeing with my eyes. The reflections of trees and patterns in the water came together with an almost haunting result. The typical neuronal-looking tree reflections have somehow gone even further that way and veered almost into blood-vessel/membrane/cell-like territory. I really love what is happening here. There was not much color to speak of in as it was shot so I finished the job by converting to black and white.
